Outings are definitely the highlights of a Scout's experience in the Boy Scouts of America. They are extremely adventurous at times, and are sometimes calm and peaceful. However, it is very important to pack properly for these outings, to avoid an unpleasant experience.
On an overnight campout, it is very important to bring the Ten Essentials of camping. These ten essential items are to ensure the safety and enjoyment of the Scout. These items are:
- Pocketknife
- First Aid Kit
- Extra Clothing
- Flashlight
- Rain Gear
- Water Bottle
- Map and Compass
- Matches or Fire Starter
- Sun Protection and Sunglasses
- Trail Food
Although some of the items on the list may seem unnecessary, they should always be taken in case they are needed. Just like the Scout Motto, a scout should "Be Prepared!"
